What precautions should be taken when using Fluororubber (FKM) seals?
Oct 14, 2025
FKM seals are widely used in various industrial equipment and piping systems due to their excellent chemical resistance, high temperature resistance, and excellent sealing properties. However, to ensure optimal performance and extended service life, the following precautions should be taken.
First, Selection and Matching:
FKM seals come in a variety of sizes and models. Before use, ensure that the selected seal matches the specifications of the equipment or piping interface. A seal that is too large or too small can result in a poor seal or installation difficulties. Furthermore, the appropriate FKM material should be selected based on the specific operating environment and media to ensure that its corrosion and heat resistance meet the required requirements.
Second, Installation Specifications:
When using FKM seals, ensure that the surface is clean, free of oil, dirt, and impurities to avoid affecting sealing performance. During installation, adhere to the specified target and force. Avoid excessive extension or distortion of the seal to prevent deformation or damage. Also, be careful to avoid scratching the seal surface with sharp objects during installation.
Third, Usage Conditions
Although fluorocarbon seals are highly heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant, they do have limitations. During use, avoid exceeding their temperature and corrosion resistance limits to prevent aging, hardening, or cracking of the seals. Furthermore, to reduce the risk of wear and damage, avoid subjecting the seals to prolonged high-pressure or high-speed operation.
Fourth, Regular Inspection
To ensure the consistent quality of fluorocarbon seals, inspect them regularly. Check for signs of damage, deformation, or aging, and ensure the sealing is effective. If any problems are found, replace them promptly to prevent leaks and other safety hazards.
Fifth, Storage Environment
Unused fluorocarbon seals should be stored in a dry, ventilated, and light-proof environment, away from direct sunlight and high temperatures. They should also be kept away from corrosive substances such as acids and alkalis to prevent damage to the seals.
Sixth, Follow Operating Procedures
When operating equipment or pipelines, follow relevant operating procedures and safety regulations to avoid damage or failure of the seals due to operating errors.
Generally speaking, the application of fluorocarbon seals requires careful attention to all aspects, from selection and matching to installation specifications, as well as operating conditions and regular inspections. Only in this way can fluorocarbon seals achieve optimal performance and provide reliable sealing protection for industrial production and machine operation.
