How to properly maintain the seal to extend its life
Nov 08, 2024
1. Regular inspection and cleaning
Regular inspection
Check the seal frequently for cracks, wear or deformation. Whether it is a seal used in machinery, automobiles, aerospace, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, this inspection is necessary, which helps to find problems in advance and deal with them in time to prevent the failure of the seal from affecting the operation of the equipment.
For example, hydraulic seals work in hydraulic systems. If they are worn or deformed, hydraulic media may leak and affect the normal operation of the system, so regular inspection is important.
Cleaning work
Use appropriate cleaning agents and tools to clean the seal. Avoid using chemicals that are too corrosive to prevent damage to the seal.
For example, the surface of the sealing gasket can be wiped with a soft brush, non-woven fabric or cotton yarn to remove impurities and ensure sealing performance.
2. Maintain proper lubrication
Choose a suitable lubricant according to the type of seal and the working environment.
Ensure that the amount of lubricant used is appropriate. Too much or too little will have an adverse effect on the performance of the seal, and check the status of the lubricant regularly and replace or add it in time. For example, adding lubricants to the sealing gasket appropriately can reduce the impact of friction between the gasket and the interface, extend the service life of the gasket, and reduce the risk of gasket wear and bursting.
3. Avoid abnormal pressure and temperature
Understand the pressure and temperature range that the sealing ring can withstand, and avoid pressure and temperature conditions exceeding this range during use.
If there are special requirements for the working environment, you can consider using high-temperature resistant or corrosion-resistant sealing rings. For example, if the car seal is exposed to high temperature for a long time, its service life will be shortened, so try to avoid parking in places that are easily exposed to the sun when parking, especially in hot summer; after washing the car in cold winter, if the sunroof glass and sealing strip are frozen, do not force it open to avoid damaging the sealing strip.
4. Prevent chemical corrosion
Be clear about the chemical substances present in the working environment, and choose sealing rings with corresponding corrosion resistance accordingly.
Check the surface of the sealing ring regularly, and replace it in time if there are signs of corrosion.
5. Pay attention to installation and removal
Install the sealing ring according to the installation guide provided by the manufacturer to ensure that it is properly installed on the equipment.
When disassembling, use appropriate tools and methods to avoid damage to the sealing ring. For example, the sealing gasket should be properly installed in the equipment and fixed in its position to avoid displacement or damage due to vibration or pressure changes. At the same time, it is necessary to prevent overpressure compression to avoid affecting the sealing performance and reducing the life.
6. Regularly replace the sealing ring
The sealing ring has a certain service life, and its performance will decrease after this period.
Develop a replacement plan based on the usage and the manufacturer's recommendations to ensure that aging or damaged sealing rings are replaced in time.
